Personalization opportunity
They keep coming back to the same product. They still won't buy.
Answer what's stopping them. Don't just say buy again.
Step 1 · Signals
What do we know about this person?
Connected
Repeat PDP or pricing views, scroll depth, comparison behavior, and no purchase.
Example eligibility rule
Require at least three views of the same product or plan across two sessions in 14 days, with at least one deep-scroll or comparison event and no cart, trial, or purchase. First-session repetition alone does not qualify.
Step 2 · The need
What’s really going on?
A handful of product or pricing views, no conversion. They are missing a reason to trust: returns, implementation, who it is for, what happens after pay. The page keeps shouting the same CTA.
Avoid this assumption
An exit discount trains people to wait. Relevant proof, clearer fit, and risk reduction address the decision they are actually making.
Step 3 · Worth it?
Do the math before you build.
At this point, the useful job is reassurance where the decision has stalled, not more personalized decoration.
Reach
How many eligible people can you reach in the chosen channel and time period?
Cost
What will content, delivery, QA and ongoing maintenance cost?
Return
What incremental outcome would cover that cost, and what is it worth?
Planning inputs, not measured results. Estimate reach × incremental outcome rate × value per outcome, then subtract cost. Use a range and a consistent time period.
Step 4 · The response
Pick how you help.
Example format: Content
A sticky module answering the likely objection for this product or plan.
Compare lighter and deeper responses
Choose the lightest response that solves the need.
Assist: Offer useful help
No popup. If a 25-person agency keeps returning to the same plan, surface the cancellation terms and a verified agency case study in the existing layout.
Adapt: Change a meaningful part
A sticky module answering the likely objection for this product or plan.
Transform: Tailor the journey
A compare-and-decide layer (fit quiz, implementation snapshot, talk-to-expert) still tested vs default.
What to watch out for
- Firing on the first visit. Repeat means repeat.
- Stacking chat, popup, and banner at once.
- Social proof from a segment that is not them.
Step 5 · The moment
Did it help? A/B test it.
Control
Default product or pricing page.
Treatment
Reassurance module for repeat viewers.
Success measure
Conversion on the viewed item or plan.
Guardrail
Discount rate and margin. If the only thing that works is money off, you learned something else.
Among visitors who met the repeat-consideration rule, compare objection-specific reassurance with the unchanged page. Measure eventual conversion and track dismissals, discount use, and support contacts by inferred objection.
Win or lose, record what worked, for whom and why. What you learn becomes the next signal.
Tools that can deliver the response
- AB Tasty content personalization Audience- and intent-based content targeting for anonymous visitors, built on live signals (referral source, device, location, scroll depth) rather than login or cookie data. As of September 2026, AB Tasty and VWO merged their brands under the new parent brand Wingify, with each platform still running independently during the transition.
- Optimizely Personalization Delivers real-time, audience-targeted experiences inside the same platform as Optimizely's A/B testing and feature-flagging tools, with audiences built from behavioral, CRM, and Optimizely Data Platform signals.
- Dynamic Yield Personalization and recommendations platform with a merchandising engine and Experience APIs for running recs and server-side experiments on any channel.
- Kameleoon Audiences Experimentation platform with an AI Predictive Targeting feature that scores each visitor's likelihood to convert (0-100) and lets you target or exclude by that score.
Try the framework on another situation
They keep opening pricing and never pick a plan. Help them choose. Another comparison table won't.
The logos and quotes are for a different kind of company. Put proof from companies like theirs on the first screen.
Work through it in the hub
Score your personalization program, explore more customer situations, and compare the tools that can deliver them.
