Experimentation / CRO

Experimentation and Testing Programs acknowledge that the future is uncertain. These programs focus on getting better data to product and marketing teams to make better decisions.

Research & Strategy

We believe that research is an integral part of experimentation. Our research projects aim to identify optimization opportunities by uncovering what really matters to your website users and customers.

Data and Analytics

90% of the analytics setups we’ve seen are critically flawed. Our data analytics audit services give you the confidence to make better decisions with data you can trust.

Personalization opportunity

They came back mid-search and had to start over.

Put them back where they left off.

Step 1 · Signals

What do we know about this person?

Connected

Prior search, filters, cart, or scroll position on return.

Example eligibility rule

Offer to resume when the visitor returns within 14 days, the prior session contains at least one search plus a filter, saved item, configured product, or meaningful reading position, and the task was not completed. On shared or unrecognized devices, show a resume option rather than restoring automatically.

Step 2 · The need

What’s really going on?

A search, a filtered catalog, a half-read collection, a configured product. They come back and the slate is blank. The polite word is "session". The honest word is "amnesia".

Avoid this assumption

You do not need to "know" the person. A durable session, a saved search, or a "pick up where you left off" is enough.

Step 3 · Worth it?

Do the math before you build.

Restoring state can remove substantial repeat work without requiring a sensitive inference. It is personalization as manners.

Reach

How many eligible people can you reach in the chosen channel and time period?

Cost

What will content, delivery, QA and ongoing maintenance cost?

Return

What incremental outcome would cover that cost, and what is it worth?

Planning inputs, not measured results. Estimate reach × incremental outcome rate × value per outcome, then subtract cost. Use a range and a consistent time period.

Step 4 · The response

Pick how you help.

Example format: Experience

Restore filters and results, with a clear "start fresh".

Compare lighter and deeper responses

Choose the lightest response that solves the need.

Assist: Offer useful help

A dismissible "continue last search" chip.

Adapt: Change a meaningful part

Restore filters and results, with a clear "start fresh".

Transform: Tailor the journey

A resume home: last search, last items, last article, last config.

What to watch out for

  • Restoring a gift-shopping session onto a later personal visit.
  • No expiry. A search from March should not haunt September.
  • Restoring on shared devices without a quiet default.

Step 5 · The moment

Did it help? A/B test it.

Control

Fresh default on return.

Treatment

Restored state with an escape hatch.

Success measure

Resume-to-conversion or task completion.

Guardrail

People who wanted a new job and felt trapped. Measure "start fresh" use.

Win or lose, record what worked, for whom and why. What you learn becomes the next signal.

Tools that can deliver the response

  • Twilio Segment Unify Builds unified, real-time customer profiles from event and identity data (Unify), which other tools consume for activation.
  • Bloomreach Ecommerce Search AI-driven ecommerce search and discovery platform (Loomi AI) that personalizes ranking, recommendations, and merchandising from first-party shopper data.
  • Algolia Hosted search infrastructure with rule-based merchandising and an opt-in machine-learning personalization layer.
  • Webflow Optimize Runs three experience types on Webflow sites: standard A/B tests, AI-optimized tests that keep shifting traffic to whatever's currently working instead of calling one winner, and manual rules-based personalization for defined audiences.

Try the framework on another situation

They searched for something specific. You showed bestsellers. Put what they asked for first.

They've been reading. You still send them the blog index. Give them the next piece of what they've been reading.

Work through it in the hub

Score your personalization program, explore more customer situations, and compare the tools that can deliver them.
