Brand Perception Baseline & Tracking

The problem, in the customer's voice

We don't know how the market sees us
I've heard the name, but I couldn't tell you what they do differently or whether they're for someone like me.
How might we know how our market actually perceives us, and whether that perception is moving?

What this recipe does

A rebrand, relaunch or repositioning is coming, and nobody can say how the market sees the brand today, which means nobody will be able to say whether the work changed anything. This recipe builds the baseline first so the after has a before.

The explore work reads what the market says unprompted. Social listening and review analysis surface the words people already use about the brand and its competitors, branded search demand shows how many go looking by name, and sales and support know which wrong assumptions keep recurring. A panel survey of the target market, rather than the customer list, then quantifies unaided and aided awareness, preference and perception against named competitors, while copy testing checks whether the intended positioning lands with the people it describes. Validation is longitudinal rather than a one-off check. The same survey, run against the same profile after the change, turns before and after from a feeling into a measurement.

The method sequence

Explore

Read what the market says unprompted: conversations, reviews, and demand for the brand by name.

Focus

Quantify awareness, preference and perception against named competitors, and check the positioning language lands.

Validate

Re-run the same measurement after the change and compare to the baseline.
